Occupational Therapy

What Is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy helps enable people of all ages to live life to the fullest by promoting health and preventing or living better with illness, disability, or injury. Common occupational therapy can include helping children with disabilities participate in social and school situations, help those recovering from an injury regain needed skills, and providing support to older adults who are experiencing cognitive and physical challenges.

Occupational therapists have a holistic approach. This approach focuses on adapting to the environment and tasks to fit the person and the person is part of the therapy. This approach includes wellness promotion and rehabilitation. Occupational therapy can often be confused with physical therapy. However, a physical therapist will treat the patient's actual impairment but from a biomechanical perspective. Physical therapy works to increase mobility in joints and lessen pain. Both will educate patients on how to avoid injury as well as the healing process. Both also assist patients with improving their ability to do daily activities. Servicing Greenstone Hill, Modderfontein and Founders Hill Family Tree Therapy Center is the place for you.
